Web camera case

Let’s take a look at one of the Ing. David Řehoř, better known as D.R.racer, latest projects is a case for the Arducam B0205. Have you ever thought of printing highly durable electronics cases? Flexfill TPU can provide exceptional results.

This time David chose to create a practical case for Arducam B0205, a relatively new web camera Arducam a company that makes camera modules intended to be incorporated in various designs and projects by their customers. Casing for all sorts of electronics is a popular type of project for 3D printers. With the 3D model of the camera being available on the Aducam page, the 3D modeling work was a tad easier for David. “I designed the case to look minimalist, organic and round with monopod, which will be screwed in place,” he says, adding. “The Pistachio Green rounded cover of the camera is in a way exceptional and kind of cute.”

Flexfill TPU, with its toughness and flexibility, provides sufficient protection for cameras and fragile electronics, even if they fall to the ground, of course, from a reasonable height. For example, if you try the same stress test with a casing made of PETG, CPE, PLA, or ABS, the case might shatter and break. As David says,” Since the Flexfill TPU 98A has proved very useful to me for durable camera covers, the choice of material was clear.” Adding that before committing to print the whole casing out of the Flexfill, he has made several test pieces in PLA to make sure all dimensions and shapes are accurate. “I didn’t want to waste Flexfill on test prints. I was curious how the printing of supports will turn out.”

The removal of the supports was reasonably simple, to David’s surprise. With flexible printing material, it’s often the case that makers avoid using supports. However, with Flexfill, This worry will hopefully pass. The mostly smooth broken of supports were also a pleasant surprise as this is not usually seen, especially with the supports made with the same material as the print itself. “Previous operational tests have confirmed the importance of the massive cooling fins. Overall, the case is only lukewarm on the surface (estimated at 35 °C), so the camera chips could be around 60 °C, which should be safe,” David states.
