Everblooming flower by Floower

Jiří Praus, Lukáš Nosek, and Pavel Beneš are three enthusiasts that decided to give a go to an ambitious project – an Everblooming flower – Floower. The flower blooms with a bright light whenever you touch it. You can control it with your smartphone or use it as an electronic candle. It’s a perfect unique present for Valentine’s day for your loved one.

In the beginning, it was Jiřís’ initiative to start this project as a well-known maker with over 21k followers on Instagram. Once he created the first everblooming flower, people worldwide started contacting him if they can purchase it. The team says that “For Jiří, this was the initial impulse for a step into the unknown. To start a company and to see whether people will be willing to buy the product at a price that will cover costs and enable further development of the company.” In the Floower team, Jiří takes care of innovation, logistics, a portion of administration, social networks, and communication with customers. Lukáš is the main production force of the whole company. He makes sure that each flower is produced in the highest possible quality and optimizes production. Pavel mainly takes care of the brand, promotion, website, and communication with customers.

The beginnings were tough since they had to learn how to run a business, which, aside from creating a successful product, surprised them with a ton of paperwork. “It was difficult to move from a maker “hacked” project to something that would be able to succeed with customers. It’s an entirely different dimension, and we are still at the very beginning. We optimize and automate production and learn how to sell.” says the Floower team.

Floower is a unique product that brings simple happiness to people’s lives. “People gift our flower on anniversaries, birthdays, or as a Christmas present. The most beautiful moment for us was when a young man proposed to his girlfriend with our flower. We change people’s lives, and that’s the goal,” the Floower team tells us. “We are delighted with the product. Of course, there were a few failures, a few flowers broke, and we sent new ones, but nothing that suggests that we were going the wrong way.”

The Floower team’s attention to detail drew them to choose PLA Crystal Clear as the optically clearest PLA for 3D printing in the world. In their own words, “the most important part of the tulip that we 3D print is the petals. We pay attention to the quality and overall impression of the flower. It must look luxurious. Our goal was to make them as transparent as possible so that the flower’s light was as natural as possible. We tried several brands, and only PLA Crystal Clear filaments from Fillamentum were a hit. They are not yellowed or matte and are perfectly printable.”

Of course, with innovation, there is a lot of places to experiment. “We use PLA Crystal Clear for the basic flower model, but PLA Crystal Clear Iceland Blue added a real touch of winter to the frozen tulip. Then PLA Extrafill Vertigo Galaxy turned our Halloween model into a great bogeyman. We still want to try PLA Crystal Clear Tangerine Orange and Amethyst Purple, but there was no time to play with it just yet. To give the whole tulip an appealing look, we combine various wood and material types on the base. It’s incredible how much you can achieve with the right colors.“

One of the most important things that they have learned is not to be discouraged when something isn’t working at the beginning. Learn from your mistakes because it’s better to make an unsuccessful thing than nothing at all. For example, it took the Floower team three months to design and create a box that they would be happy with.
