OBC 905
High-performance and lightweight material for 3D printing
After several months of development, Fillamentum is honored to launch its new filament OBC 905. It is a polyethylene-based filament using Imagin3D™ Polyethylene OBC from the global DOW Chemical Company. Due to its useful properties, this filament belongs to the high-class products of the Fillamentum Industrial group.
The first opportunity to experience the new OBC 905 material was already in November for visitors of Formnext world fair for additive manufacturing in Frankfurt am Main, Germany. Here, the filament was ceremoniously presented by the Fillamentum team as well as the Dow Chemical Company, represented by Mr. Aleš Polák, thanks to whom the cooperation with the global chemical giant worked perfectly. “As far as I could see, Fillamentum approached the issue of launching the OBC 905 product very responsibly and professionally, both with its own exposition, and with a professional approach when offering the product. The visit and subsequent discussions convinced me that we have chosen the right partner for cooperation,” summed up Mr. Polák the visit of Fillamentum exhibition stand in Germany.
Don’t worry if the name OBC doesn’t mean anything to you. It stands for Olefinic Block Copolymer. The filament provides high impact and wear resistance, very low density, and a waterproof surface. A 3D printed object retains its flexibility for about one week. Is this advantage or disadvantage? This always depends on the end users and their application. We consider this filament to be light weighted, which is the result of the correct proportion of the polyethylene component. This property is especially applicable for 3D printing of components for flying drones. Another of the many advantages is the chemical resistance to acids, alcohols, glycols and water, which we try to evoke in the 3D printing of test tube stands and caps for the chemical laboratory. Its toughness, low absorbency and good electrical insulation should also be mentioned. This material is recyclable.
We strongly recommend printing temperature in the range from 195° to 215°C. We also recommend setting up the hot bed temperature between 95° and 105°C. Speed around 30-35mm/s is good starting point as this material is flexible. Depending on the printer and the settings. More information can be found on our website in the Filaments section.
