Cyberpunk2077 Feather
by David Shorey

David Shorey is a designer known for combining cutting-edge 3D printing techniques with modern fashion designs. His work includes also digital effects in feature films or robotics.

This time David uses Fillamentum PLA Extrafill “Wizard’s Voodoo”, “Noble Blue”, and “Everybody’s Magenta”, along with Fillamentum PLA Crystal Clear “Smaragd Green” to create Cyberpunk2077 Feather.

David was trying to make something immediately recognizable as a feather but also felt man-made and futuristic. “There was another maker,
Billie Ruben
, who released a video on a unique way of using the slicer to make a feather design. Her video can be seen on Youtube and I wanted to try my take on the effect by using the geometry instead of the slicer,“ explains David. Adding the zigzag pattern to the barbs helped sell those differences.

To make these super delicate structures with 3D printing in a new way was a bit challenging for David. Matching up the geometry with the width of the printer nozzle itself took a bit of trial and error as well.

We asked David if he would change anything on the printed feathers. His answer was clear: “I would play with more sizes and slightly different feather shapes. It would also be interesting to try out different color blending methods and patterns.” David chooses materials by Fillamentum for its wide offer of colors that has amazing optical properties that made the look of printed object unique.
